Tuning In

As a disabled veteran who has been dealing successfully with idiopathic autonomic, small fiber neuropathy with anhydrosis and hypohydrosis there is one important fact that I have learned very well. Before mentioning that I will tell you that since November 2005 when I was stationed in Mosul Iraq during my last year of Active Duty up until 2009 sometime I was bound to VA narcotic prescriptions. However, since I have learned to make use of this most powerful tool available to everyone on the planet, I have been able to ditch all of the drugs, feel much better, with a lot less pain and never look back, at least not with remorse.

That is an incredible statement to make isn’t it. You see it is not a trick and it will cost you a great deal but you won’t spend a dime for it.

Why is that?

Because all it requires is that you take the same nurture and care that you would devote to a newborn. However, you must be consistent and persistent without slack or you will pay for it. I’m sure I’m driving you crazy by now but that is just my writing style.

So, without further ado I’m talking about learning to get tuned in.

Tuned in to what?

Tuned in to you.

Did you get that?

Many people suffer needlessly and continuously because they fail to do this one thing just right. It is not some pill you pop a few times or some gimmick you try just once or twice. You must get tuned in to you or you will never understand the reasons behind:

  • Why you feel the way you do.
  • Why it hurts the way it does.
  • Why nothing seems to work.
  • Why things seem to work but then they don't.
  • Why you have more questions than answers.

Does that shoe fit?

If so than you are not tuned in and if you are, you are not listening very well. Nothing happens within your body by accident or because it is not supposed to. I realize this is a very bold statement but once you fully realize this, how much more liberated you will be. I will add this also, that every organ and cell and all else in between is there for a reason and has a purpose. Especially those tonsils that the medical experts seem to think don’t serve much of a purpose. They are quite essential to proper breathing but you will have to do your own research to check me on that, considering that I will not be delving further into the subject here.

So to keep my mind on track, the point is that the more you tune in to you the more you will realize how your body ticks. Notice I said you getting tuned in to you not someone else. You see not even a medical professional can truly help you very much except to make an educated guess based upon their learned protocol and database of matching symptoms with the right drug. If you don’t know than neither does anyone else. If you don’t get tuned in that you will never know and everyone else has to ask you questions and make the right guess. Yes there are tests that will be ran to verify these hypotheses but just because things match does not necessarily mean that they are. Tough pill to swallow but it is a fact. Just to pacify the furrowing brows or glaring eyes it is a matter of dealing with problems from the source or root not focusing on the results or effects of them. A pinched nerve from a slipped disc does not mean that that is the cause of the sciatic nerve pain that you may be feeling. It doesn’t matter what the x-ray is showing. I’m not making light of this by any means but the point is that is the easy way out considering that it is something that can be seen but what about what lead up to the problem? You see understanding what lead up to the problem likely is still behind the existence of the problem in the first place.

Getting tuned in is a matter of taking note of:

  • How what you do makes you feel inside and out.
  • How what you eat makes you feel inside and out.
  • How the way you think impacts how you feel inside and out.
  • How your relationships impact how you feel inside and out.

Are you starting to get the picture?

I could keep going on about realizing how you feel impacts the way you eat and then results in you feeling better or worse. Your body is always speaking to you and the more you get tuned in the more you will understand what it is trying to say. It is your body; no one else can interpret its special language for you, except for you. However, the more you get tuned in the more you will understand yourself and the easier you can explain yourself to your medical provider when things don’t feel good. This is not something that I have a monopoly on but is the key to feeling better and even avoiding not feeling very well. It was not until I stopped relying so much on my primary care providers for answers and began listening to the answers my body was giving me that I slowly began my turn around in my condition. I am no stranger to excruciating, burning, stabbing, numbing, and shocking like extreme nerve and chronic pain. The difference now and then is I don’t experience such daily all day long but very infrequently and literally when I put myself into it. Believe me it is not necessarily on purpose but more so because I feel so well that I fail to stop when I know I should and then I pay for it or I keep pushing the envelope just a little more until it is too late.

While I could have said so much more the take home is take out the time to pay attention to yourself on a minute level.

How did you feel when you got done eating that meal or meals throughout the day?

Write it down or take a mental note. With every activity you do you should understand the subtle expressions of your body.

Did you ever notice that every time you get done eating a certain thing that you have some GI issues?

If so let me ask you this, do you always drink while you eat?

Also how well do you chew your food before you swallow?

The more tuned in you are to you the less you will wonder why when things begin to go south. The best part of it is you will know what you need to stop or start doing in order to rectify the problem. You will never know why every little thing is the way it is internally and externally but you will have a better understanding as to the general cause or causes behind such.
